Tirzepatide is a 39-amino-acid peptide that activates two incretin receptors at once: GLP-1 and GIP. It is built on a GIP backbone with a fatty-acid side chain that binds albumin, which is why its reported half-life is about five days. The dual-receptor design is the reason it is studied alongside, and compared against, single-receptor GLP-1 compounds such as semaglutide.
